<image:title>On Site Testing - On site testing.</image:title>
<image:caption>When we visit site to conduct testing, we insist it is done correctly. Unless requested otherwise a standard visit will consist of the following: 1. The delivery ticket will be asked for, so the stated workability and mix details are known. 2. Visual inspection of the first part of discharge to assess suitability to test. 3. If suitable, a composite sample, not a spot, sample will be taken. 4. In extremes of weather the concrete sample will be temperature tested and recorded. 5. If required air contest tests can be carried out on air entrained concrete I.e PAV1 PAV2 RHS or other grades requested with air entrainment. – we require notice that an air test is required due to the size and fragility of the equipment it is not permanently kept in the technician’s vans. 6. A slump test (or flow in the case of SCC) will be conducted and the result recorded. 7. 100mm cube samples will be prepared on site to the current British standard, the quantity required will be discussed with the client. 8. A sampling sheet with all relevant information will be completed before leaving site. We offer an out of hours service, holiday cover, single visit, or regular contract testing. We can even offer a pour management package where all concrete deliveries are recorded, water additions monitored, loads slump tested with any out of specification concrete being quarantined until corrective action is agreed and the pre-agreed cube sampling rates. Our technicians are fully trained, have all the correct equipment and PPE.</image:caption>

<image:title>Air entrainment tests - Air entrainment tests.</image:title>
<image:caption>Where Air entrained concrete is specified or supplied (often abbreviated to Aea on supplier’s delivery tickets) it is important the correct % is achieved. Too high and the concrete compressive strength will be compromised and a higher risk of delamination, too low and the durability of the concrete will be compromised. BS EN 206 stipulates that when an air entrained (Aea) concrete is used it must be tested daily, it is also important to continually monitor the air content during large external works. Some ready mixed concrete companies will produce air entrained “branded” grades of concrete that our not covered bs BS EN 8500. These should not be excluded from air entrainment testing. Whilst this test should be carried out by the concrete supplier, we recommend independent testing to ensure results are correctly reported. We can quote for a single visit to conduct a slump, Air, temperature and 4 set compressive test or part or full day monitoring. Our Air entrainment tests are carried out in accordance with BS EN 12350-7.</image:caption>

<image:caption>We can collect fresh mortar samples from site to be moulded back at the laboratory, these will then be cured in the correct manor prior to testing, generally a test sample will consist of three 160 x 40 x 40mm prisms and we will conduct flexural tests on two prisms at 28 days and compressive tests on these same samples, One of the prisms is retained just in case an anomaly is detected and the sample is needed for further in depth investigation. These fresh mortar samples can be further tested for air content, flow and setting time.</image:caption>

<image:title>Screed testing - Screed testing.</image:title>
<image:caption>We have experience in testing sand/cement, cementitious flowing and anhydrite-based screeds. For flowing screeds, we can conduct on site flow tests and sampling, we prefer to leave the samples on site for collection the next day before being cured in the correct non-immersed environment. Sand cement screeds can be collected from site and moulded back at the laboratory where the density can be assessed, the moisture content determined and cured correctly. Flowing screed samples are produced in 160 x 40 x 40mm prisms so a flexural strength as well as a compressive strength can be determined, and sand/cement screeds can be produced as either prisms or 50 x 50 x 50mm cubes.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Plate Bearing In-situ Plate bearing & CBR Test (California bearing ratio) : For assessing or verifying the ground bearing capacity, CBR value for design of foundations, haul roads, crane, or pilling mats. We now use of one of the most advanced Plate load test equipment systems currently available, as an automated data logging system it does not rely on manual calculations and therefore eliminates potential error. Tests can be customised depending on the requirements of the engineer, loading increment, unloading decrements and cycles can all be dictated. We have available plate sizes of 300, 455 & 610mm diameter and a 250Kn pressure system so the test can be conducted using the most appropriate size based on information required or the reaction load available on site. Once the system is in place the technician does not need to return under the reaction load to record measurements as these are collected via Bluetooth directly to the handheld unit, drastically reducing the potential for harm or a site incident. Fully compliant with BS1377-9 with all transducers and load cells calibrated to traceable UKAS standards For each test conducted the system records the GPS coordinates avoiding any disputes regarding the test locations. these can then be plotted on a map. Reports are generated on site and emailed to the lab prior to our departure (subject to a decent 3G signal). This is to esure our “Same day report guarantee”</image:caption>

<image:caption>All producers have a duty of care with regards to the disposal of hazardous waste. A waste acceptance criteria (WAC) test is required to identify if materials destined for landfill will be accepted, it is the minimum mandatory test. We can sample the material at the point of excavation to ensure the appropriate tests are carried out and reported in the time frame required.</image:caption>

<image:title>Pull out testing - Pull out test</image:title>
<image:caption>Applications of the Pull-Out Test: Construction Industry: The pull-out test is widely used in construction to assess the performance of anchors, bolts, and other fasteners used for securing elements like steel beams, façade attachments, and reinforcement bars in concrete structures. It ensures that these fasteners can withstand the expected loads and environmental conditions, such as wind, earthquakes, or vibrations. Geotechnical Engineering: In soil and rock mechanics, pull-out tests are employed to evaluate the capacity of soil nails, ground anchors, and rock bolts used in stabilizing slopes, excavations, or retaining walls. This helps ensure the safety and stability of civil engineering projects. Aerospace and Automotive: In manufacturing, pull-out tests are conducted to verify the integrity of riveted or bolted joints in aerospace and automotive components. These tests ensure that critical connections can withstand the stresses encountered during operation. Material Testing: The pull-out test can be used to determine the bond strength between materials like concrete and reinforcement bars (rebar). This is essential for assessing the performance of concrete structures in terms of load-bearing capacity and durability. Quality Control: Manufacturers often use the pull-out test as part of quality control processes to ensure that fasteners and anchors meet specified standards and safety regulations.</image:caption>

<image:title>Core Testing - Core Cutting & testing</image:title>
<image:caption>Understanding Concrete Core Testing Concrete core testing is a critical procedure used to assess the integrity and quality of concrete structures. It involves the extraction of cylindrical samples (cores) from the existing concrete, typically in the form of drilled cores. These cores are then subjected to various laboratory tests to evaluate the concrete's properties, strength, durability, and overall condition. Key Applications: Strength Assessment: One of the primary uses of concrete core testing is to determine the compressive strength of concrete. This information is crucial for ensuring that the concrete meets design specifications and safety standards. Quality Control: It helps in identifying any defects, voids, or anomalies in the concrete structure, allowing for timely remediation and maintenance. Evaluation of Durability: Concrete core testing can assess the resistance of the concrete to factors such as freeze-thaw cycles, chemical exposure, and other environmental conditions. Structural Assessment: It plays a vital role in evaluating the structural integrity of buildings, bridges, and other concrete structures, aiding in decision-making for repairs or renovations. Material Analysis: This testing method can also provide insights into the composition and properties of the concrete mix, helping in forensic investigations or material research. By performing concrete core testing, you can ensure the safety and longevity of your concrete structures, maintain compliance with building codes, and make informed decisions about maintenance and repairs.</image:caption>
